As an example, the Julian Day number system defines its day 0 to be 1 January 4712. Applying the rules of the Gregorian calendar, this date is 24 November 4713, a date 38 days before the zero point. Hence, the error of 38 days must be added to the Gregorian proleptic date to obtain the Julian date.
Note that the table may also be used to obtain proleptic Julian dates from Gregorian dates. As an example, the Gregorian date 15 October 1582 may be converted to its corresponding Julian proleptic date of 05 October 1582 by adding 10 days.
The error term may be computed for any arbitrary century term by the formula:
0193-01.gif
where c is the century term as defined, the division operator (/) performs integer division, which truncates the remainder, and e is the error term as defined.
