This section presents a more complete list of the days of observance in the Jewish calendar. The list is ordered by day within month within the civil year. |

|
|
|
|
Tishri is the first month of the civil year, and the seventh month of the sacred or religious year. |
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
Tishri 1 and 2 Rosh Hashanah. Caput Anni, or New Year. The first and second days are treated as one long day, Yoma Arichta, or "a day lengthened out". Both days are kept with equal solemnity. |

|
|
|
Tishri 1 The Feast of Trumpets. (Leviticus xxiii, 24, 25). This day was one of the seven Holy Days of Convocation. (Leviticus xxiii, 24). The others are Tishri 10, Tishri 15, Tishri 22, Nisan 15, Nisan 21, and Sivan 6. |

Tishri 3 Fast of Gedaliah. In memory of his slaughter, and that of the Jews who were with him at Mizpah, by Ishmael, who was sent by Baalis, King of the Ammonites to kill him. (2 Kings xxv, 2226). Al-Biruni records (The Chronology of Ancient Nations: An English Version of the Arabic Text of the Athar-Ul-Bakiya of Albiruni, or Vestiges of the Past, Collected and Reduced To Writing by the Author in A.H. 3901, A.D. 1000, p. 269) that Gedaliah was drowned in a cistern with 82 others. |

Tishri 7 Fast for the Golden Calf, which the people compelled Aaron to make in Horeb, when Moses was in the Mount. (Exodus xxxii, 135). |

|
Tishri 10 Fast of Kippur, also called Ashura or the White Fast. This is the great day of atonement or expiation. The fast starts half an hour before sunset on the ninth day. The date commemorates the day when Moses descended from Mount Sinai with the renewed Table of the Law. The fast was instituted to atone for all of the sins committed during the past year. (Leviticus, xvi, 29). This fast is obligatory, and observed strictly. All other fasts are voluntary. This is the only fast ordained by Moses. All other fasts were instituted at later times. |

Tishri 15 and 16 Succoth. The first and second days of the Feast of Tabernacles, or gathering of the harvest. This is one of the three great feasts when every male of Israel was commanded to appear before the Lord and make offering. The Feast was kept in memory of the dwelling in tents in the wilderness and lasted for seven days, but the first and last were the most solemn. |
