Thus, the phrase "first Kull-i-Shay" means "within the first Kull-i-Shay", which has not been completed, so the value of the Kull-i-Shay unit for counting purposes is zero in this case, and (N 1) in general for the Nth Kull-i-Shay. Likewise, the fifth Vahid counts four complete previous Vahid units and indicates the current one, so this unit is also decremented by one for counting purposes.
