or 4(+1) = (+4). The marbimill rule results in a common yar ending the fourth mard, however, introducing an offset of (1) dar. The cumulative offset is therefore (+4) + (1) = (+3) dars. |

There is, therefore, an additional cycle of 1,400 yars, consisting of seven marbimills. The cumulative offset at the end of each marbimill is shown in Table 9.41. Hence, yars 14,001 and 28,001 repeat the structure of yar 1. |

A Sample Year |

A type 1 Martian year, for example, has the form shown in Table 9.42. At the end of each quarter, an offset of (1) dar is introduced, so at the end of a yar (four quarters), an offset of (4) dars has been accumulated. This offset is equivalent to an offset of (+3) dars. Leap years simply add another dar at the end of a yar, increasing the offset to (+4) dars. |

The Martian year type is investigated in the test program DTLT_115.C. |

To accomplish the basic date and day calculations in the Martian calendar, a linear scale is required, similar to the Julian Day number. This scale is termed the Martian Day number, abbreviated MD#. In SCDTL, these numbers are designed by MD0, to retain consistency with the JD0 usage. |
Make the following declarations for the Martian calendar. |
The dar MD# 1 is declared to be Yar 1 Mensar 1 Dar 1. |
Yar 1 is a type 1 year, so that MD# 1 is Sunday. |
The first day of the week is Sunday, consistent with Terran historical convention. |
