The book bibliography is organized alphabetically by book title, whereas the periodical bibliography is organized alphabetically by author's last name then by article title. |

An unresolved problem at the time of this writing is the treatment of bibliographic citations for Internet files and Web site material. Numerous discussions with professional librarians and teachers of literature and language lead to the conclusion that there is no standard format for citing these electronic sources at this time. |

A further complication is that there is no central repository for archived files. Files may appear briefly and then disappear without a trace. Others are present longer but are subject to constant updates, with previous versions being lost. Web sites are constantly under construction. As bizarre as it may seem, the vital information resources of the Net completely lack any organizational means for cataloging, archiving, and tracing materials. |

Several of the sections of this work were developed exclusively with Net resources. In numerous cases, these resources moved, mutated, or disappeared altogether in a matter of a few months. Part of the problem is the disparity in relative speeds of the media. Dead trees are slower than electrons. The half-life of electronic information is correspondingly shorter than that of printed matter. But a larger part of the problem is the lack of thought being given to organizational resources and archival procedures. |
