Errors in Published Tables |

Use of the SCDTL routines permits (indeed, requires) checking the results against sample dates published in tables in standard reference works. Extensive manual cross-checking of SCDTL results against these tables reveal errors, which are noted below. |

|
One of the more disturbing results of the research conducted for the SCDTL project is the discovery that the older texts are, on average, much more accurate and more carefully researched and prepared than their contemporary counterparts. The older texts contain the odd typographical error, but rarely the obviously self-contradictory nonsense as the consequence of hasty and careless modern scholarship. It is the older references, then, that should be relied upon for date tables. |

Bear in mind that these tables were calculated, compiled, written, typeset, and checked by hand. Given the scope and difficulty of these tasks, these tables are remarkably accurate and are a testament to the quality of good old-fashioned, careful, and bewhiskered Victorian scholarship. The majority of errors are simple typographical misprints. |
