This section discusses the basic functions that constitute the guts of the SCDTL system, as far as the Western calendar is concerned. Many applications need look no further than the functions in this section. |

The first functions to consider are basic utilities. All chapters in this book are arranged internally in a pedagogical order. No function is introduced until all of the functions it calls have been discussed. Therefore, the following functions depend upon no others and may be used by many others, either directly or indirectly. |

The make functions (Listings 5.1 and 5.2, pages 85, 86) are simple but convenient ways to fill a structure. There are two basic make functions, one each for the TIME_INFO and DATE_INFO structures. There is no make function for the TIME_12 data structure, since it is not essential to the SCDTL system. |
