Page 8 Conversion function names typically have the form X_to_Y (), and both "X" and "Y" are uniform throughout the entire system. All functions that convert a value to a date of the form identified by the structure DATE_INFO, for example, will have names of the form X_to_date (). The following discussion pertains to the naming conventions employed for the calendar section of this book. The large number of calendars treated in this section should not cause the reader to conclude that SCDTL is exclusively concerned with calendars. Names for functions that apply specifically to a particular calendar are prefixed by a standard name to distinguish them from each other. Thus, the function islamic_date_today () is distinguished from the related jewish_date_today (), for example. Both return the current date, but in their respective calendar systems. The standard abbreviations used for function names with the various calendars are listed in Table 1.1. Table 1.1 Standard function abbreviations.
