Third, I acknowledge the contributions of a pair of friends in Europe Dr. Joao C. de Magalhaes of Portugal and Constance Veening of the Netherlands. Whatever success SCDTL has experienced in growing beyond a parochial American perspective is due to their efforts. It was Dr. de Magalhaes' letters to The C Users Journal which finally prompted us to convert SCDTL from a proprietary system to a book. Our correspondence was the source of several useful ideas and contacts. Constance Veening supplied several ideas and COBOL functions which became part of SCDTL. Her talent for asking "simple" questions is uncanny, and her patience in backstopping our obstinate blunders was invaluable. |
