                            MCT-25 HELP FILE

The MULTIPATH CONTINUITY TESTING SYSTEM (MCT25) automates testing of
continuity, shorts or opens between paths (lines) in a cable or any other
multipath device.

The MCT25 sends test signals out the "A OUT" jack (J1), through the
device, and then checks the "B IN" jack (J2) pins for presence of
signals, indicating a connection. Looking from the front, the pin
designations on "A OUT" and "B IN" are:

13 12 11 10 09 08 07 06 05 04 03 02 01
  25 24 23 22 21 20 19 18 17 16 15 14

Connect one end of the device to be tested to J1 and the other end to J2.
For a device with other than Male DB-25 connectors, you must make an
adaptor to mate with J1 or J2. The adaptor consists of a Male DB-25
wired to an appropriate mating connector for the device to be tested.
As an example, you'd need one adaptor for the 36 pin (Centronics)
connector end of a printer cable (the other end mates with the MCT25
connector directly). Here's how to wire that adaptor.

The MCT25 functions and sub-functions are:

FILE: Pressing <Alt F> gets you the following sub-functions:

Load: Pressing L activates the Load sub-function. Here you
enter the name of a definition file to load. The file name you
enter should not include any file extension. After the file is
loaded, its name will appear in the upper portion of the screen
to remind you which file has been loaded. Any testing will now
compare results to the loaded definition file.

View: Pressing V activates the View sub-function. This displays
the details of the definition file.

Unload: Pressing U activates the Unload sub-function. You must
unload a file if you want to re-initiate manual testing (where
the application searches for connections and reports them back to
you). When you start MCT25, you are in the manual mode.

Dos Shell: Pressing D activates the Dos Shell sub-function.
Here you can perform normal Dos functions, including obtaining a
listing of definition files (by executing the Dos command
DIR *.CBL).

Exit: Pressing X activates the Exit sub-function, ending the
program.

TEST: Pressing <ALT T> or simply T activates the Test function.
In the manual testing mode, the connections found will be
reported. When a file has been previously loaded, the test
results will be compared to the definition in that file and
either indicate a "PASS", or a "FAIL" with the shorts or opens
that do not match the definition being listed. **NOTE**: Remember
to have your device connected to MCT25 and the power applied
before beginning testing. MCT25 will still report test results
even if power is not applied, but the results will be not be
correct.
