hi friends ... i'm new in DBA working as trainee

i need some help from u plz

i need to do a daily backup for the database using RMAN on ORACLE 10g

i need the steps and the script for doing this backup

plz help me :wub:

Welcome

10g Enterprise Manager has the abilities to do daily backup in very easy way ..all what you have to do is to go the Enterprise Manager-Maintains and then Backup ... he will ask you about what type you wants(Full or Incremental or you prefer the defaults strategy ....)

Follow the steps and you will find that Enterprise Manager creates a daily job for that !!!!!

Note : Make sure of available space in Flash Recovery Area(the default locations of backup 's files)

If You Want to use RMAN

You'r Database must be in archivelog mode first .

i prefer to create a catalog database & then register you'r database with the rman using the current syntax :

1- Create the database to be used as the recovery catalog . Alternatively, identify an already existing database and use that. Because a single recovery catalog can serve more than one database , you may choose to create a single recovery catalog that services all your databases that are being back3ed up.

2- In the recovery catalog database, create the user that will own the recovery catalog data. For example, assume that catdb is the name of the catalog database , and rcat_ts is the name of a tablespace you have created where the catalog data is to be stored . 

$ sqlplus sys/password@catdb as sysdba

SQL>  Create User rman Identified by cat 
temporary tablespace temp
default tablespace rcat_ts
quota unlimited on rcat_ts;

SQL> Grant recovery_catalog_owner to rman;

And Then Connect using rman & Register You'r Database to the catalog database .

$ rman catalog rman/cat@catdb

RMAN> Create catalog tablespace rcat_ts;

$ rman target sys/password@orcl catalog rman/cat@catdb

RMAN> register database;

how to use RMAN to backup you'r databse :

backup as backupset database plus archivelog delete input;
